Christmas is going to be big around here! Our little girl recently turned two and she is really excited about all the shiny bits and baubles that she discovers after I set them out. I caught her telling the cat that the mercury glass trees are glass and breakable. “Kitty, this breakable. This glass”. Too cute! Hope you enjoy our Christmas decorations as much as she does! To get even more festive, I am joining Kippi from Kippi at Home and other friends to share our holiday tours. Make sure to click on each link at the end of the post to visit each home!
If you are new here, welcome and I hope you visit again! I talk about everything from our renovation projects to recipes to holiday crafts. I love vintage pieces and involving my kids in hands on projects around the house.

Christmas Tour: Trees and Tapers in the Living Room
Lights and more lights.
Somewhere I read that Seattle, where we live, has the shortest winter days of any other U.S. city! On top of this, the short winter days can be very dark when it is raining (which is a lot of the time!)
To combat the seasonal affective disorder, I use a ton of lights around the house, like Christmas string lights, light up mercury glass trees, candles both battery powered and old fashioned match powered ones.
Homemade Christmas Decorations + Plus Fresh Trimmings
Our basement is currently a construction zone and the Christmas decoration totes are stacked along with a bunch of other totes under tarps.
I dug through and found some items, but I am still missing our stockings and others.
With some decorations MIA, I made these small wreaths for the windows and bought fresh cedar garlands as well as a wreath at Trader Joe’s. The poinsettias are from Home Depot.
Small Potted Christmas Trees.
Bring the outdoors in with a mini Christmas tree surrounded by pine cones. Keep it simple and opt for a classic evergreen adorned with twinkling lights and simple ornaments.
I repurposed the bushel baskets I used for my fall mantel and porch and used them to hold the tabletop tree and poinsettias. They are no longer available, but these baskets are similar and have good ratings.
Coffee Table Holiday Decorations
My daughter had the best time with this tray full of apparently very interesting things. I later added another mercury glass tree on top of one of the magazines and it was a hit with her.
My kids and I collected the pine cones and I displayed them on our mantel for Thanksgiving. They look pretty cute in the cheery red bowl, plus they echo the ones I nestled at the base of the tree.
Layered Garland- Cedar + Wood Beads
Over Thanksgiving someone brought a beautiful bouquet as a hostess gift. I saved the red dried florals and eucalyptus branches to spruce up the cedar garland.
With my other garlands lost in the basement tote abyss, I made the wooden bead one shown above. It adds a nice rustic element to tie into the bushel barrels and pine cones that I use elsewhere.
