Looking to revamp your home decor on a budget? Let me show you how to Transform Your Decor with Spray Paint: A Step-by-Step Tutorial for Creating Cohesive and Stylish Spaces!

While prepping our outdoor spaces for summer, I realized that I had a mish mash of accessories. I had lanterns in a color that I didn’t really like, a tray in a different color that didn’t match the lanterns and that I also didn’t like. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for an eclectic look and I often mix metals and styles, but these items were just wrong.

While looking to update my backyard outdoor patio with new accessories, I came across some beautiful brass lanterns. I really wanted to incorporate brass into my space but didn’t want to buy anything new. So what did I do?

1. Define a color scheme for your space.

After browsing for inspiration, I decided to save the perfectly good pieces I had and paint them! P.S. click on the small images above to shop. Use the black arrows to see more options.

Using spray paint to create cohesive home decor is a great way to add a pop of color and style to your living space. Here are some tips to help you achieve a cohesive look:

2. Select the right type of spray paint.

Make sure you choose the right type of spray paint for the surface you will be painting. Most spray paints are compatible with multiple surfaces, but double check that the paint you choose will work for the material you are working with.

Along with spray paint, don’t forget to grab sand paper or sanding block, gloves, cleaning rag and plastic or cardboard to protect the area you are working on.

3. Prep the surfaces you want to spray paint.

Clean and prepare the surfaces you will be painting. Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough spots, and wipe down the surfaces with a damp cloth to remove any dust or debris.

4. Apply the paint.

Use light, even strokes to apply the paint. Hold the can about 8-10 inches away from the surface and spray in a back-and-forth motion. Apply multiple thin coats rather than one thick coat to prevent drips and achieve a smoother finish.

5. Allow the paint to dry.

Allow the paint to dry completely before handling or moving the objects. This will prevent smudging or marring the finish.

I’m so glad that I saved the lanterns and tray. They have so much life left in them and now I love how they pop against the dark cushions and fire pit table as well as the wood elements.
