This year I scaled down my Christmas decorating a bit. Life just felt more hectic with a busy toddler getting into everything and my son’s crafts and projects that seem to be all over the house. One space I can’t forget, is part of our kitchen. Read on to see our Christmas breakfast nook!
Our breakfast nook is one my favorite rooms in our house. It makes me smile every time I come into the kitchen.
It wasn’t always smile inducing however. Check out some of the process to get to where it is today.

I made this cardboard garland as a part of a sponsored post on Hometalk and it set the tone for the theme.
This DIY pampas grass tree is one of my favorite projects this year. At first I thought it was a bit wonky, but it has really grown on me!
The silver plated bowl was an estate sale purchase. Then I added some fake snow to cover the base of the faux tree and add a wintry look.
While making the garland I got the idea to create decorations that can hang from the ceiling or in front of windows.
I used the same leaf shape but went more abstract by connecting two.
In addition to the pillows that are normally in this space, I added the furry pillow with tree pattern as well as two furry white pillows and a throw.
Our nook is the spot where we open the advent calendar every morning. When my son was a toddler he liked to make his toy cars drive along the window sill. Now he builds Lego at the table while I cook. And now his little sister toddles around on the ground below, wanting to be near her big brother.
These decorations will definitely transition to winter and make the dark days and nights a bit brighter.

I really like the simplicity of this area. It would make me smile every time I saw it too.
